Akademi Adat Programme (AAP)
Akademi Adat Programme speaks about the “way of life” of the Indigenous People here in Borneo. It is basically the educational process on the Adat which is deeply rooted in the lives and culture of the Dayak peoples throughout Borneo especially here in Sarawak. The central learning theme of Akademi Adat includes traditional learning systems, philosophies, and methods that ensure the transmission of Indigenous knowledge and practices from generation to generation.
This is a six months course which will help to deepen as well as to strengthen the knowledge of the course participants on the Adat which is very much connected to the Statute Laws, the Constitution and the Belief System of the country. The course is designed for all Indigenous people in Borneo as well as outsiders who are interested in working directly or indirectly with the communities. AAP Courses are designed to provide training based on the traditional cultural practices, values, and knowledge of a particular ethnic community in Borneo.
Through this training course, participants will learn the following:

You will learn a variety of things about ADAT which means 'Our Way of Life' which includes all aspects of our lives as Indigenous people on the island of Borneo so that participants can help to safeguard indigenous cultural heritage for future generations, while also promoting cross-cultural understanding and appreciation

Course outline/Content


  1. M.1 Indigenous Adat

    The emphasis will be on Borneo Adat which naturally will be on the Dayak Adat. Adat includes a way of life, basic values, culture, accepted code of conduct, manners, conventions and customary laws.

  2. M.2 Statute Law

    Statute law is the body of law enacted by Parliament or State Assembly or Dewan Undangan Negeri

  3. M.3 Constitution

    Constitution is the manner in which a state or other body is organized.
    The body of fundamental doctrines and rules of the nation from which stem the duties and powers of the government and the duties and rights of the people

  4. M.4 Belief System

    Our Belief System is our religious faith in our respective religion that we embrace like Christianity, Islam, Hindu, Buddhism, Adat Lama and many others


Whenever Adat is being taught and learned the natural thought that comes to our mind is our own nation where we live right now which has its own Constitution and Statute Law which is very much influenced by or to the belief system of its citizens. This means we are looking at the Adat and its relation to Statute Law, the Constitution and our Belief System. By having a better and solid understanding of these 4 modules, it is hope that every citizen of a country is assumed to be citizens who respect and honour the Adat, honour the Law, respect the Constitution and fear for one’s own belief system. The details of the programme in the form of a handbook will be provided for participants who will register and confirm to attend this course.

With 100% attendance, you will receive a certificate of completion. Graduates of this course are eligible to enrol in Indigenous Leadership Training. Graduates can also be eligible to be an AAP facilitators and trainers.
